IN SHORT
We’re looking for a Food Scout: Convenience Food Innovation to build an ever-evolving food portfolio. You take dishes from idea to fridge in weeks—so our customers enjoy up to 8 new dishes every week. You have a culinary background, cooking skills, project management expertise, food safety know-how, and great communication skills to collaborate with our partner chefs and push innovation forward.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Convenience Food Development
- Own the full product development process, from ideation to launch
- Source and develop long-shelf-life products alongside fresh convenience food
- Translate customer feedback and market trends into viable convenience food options
- Ensure attractive, safe, and practical packaging for all products
- Develop and refine recipes, sometimes collaborating directly with co-packers
- Ensure all products meet food safety standards while maintaining excellent taste and presentation
- Manage ad hoc production issues with suppliers
- Create product food pictures in line with our style guide
Supplier Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for suppliers and producers
- Work closely with internal teams to align supplier expectations and administrative processes
- Maintain weekly communication with key suppliers
- Negotiate prices
- Understand local landscape of fresh food producers as well as national manufacturers of snacks & beverages
Administration & Compliance
- Ensure food labels meet New York regulatory standards as well as FELFEL’s internal requirements.
- Enter product data into FELFEL systems and ensure data in system remains accurate.
Snacks & Drinks Sourcing
- Identify new snack and beverage suppliers, including white-labeling opportunities. Organize tastings with FELFEL team to gather feedback.
Menu Planning & Optimization
- Curate and plan fridge menus, ensuring dietary inclusivity, variety, supplier feasibility, as well as profitability.
WHO YOU ARE
- Background in Food Science or Culinary Arts, with 5+ years of experience in a relevant field, ideally in retail setting where you were responsible for convenience food development
- Professional cooking skills: you know how to create a recipe, how to taste a dish, and understand the basics of worldwide recipes
- Strong understanding of food safety & how to create a ‘safe’ product for our customers
- Good communication skills: sometimes you will be in front of clients, guests, or convincing the team
- Tech-savvy: comfortable using different internal tools, ChatGPT, research platforms, Excel, Powerpoint, Slack, etc.
- You can negotiate a price with different kinds of suppliers successfully
- Entrepreneurial mindset: thriving in a fast-paced, evolving environment is key
- Ability to evaluate and select food producers based on their production capabilities, food safety exposure, etc.
- You have a valid work permit to work in the United States
- You have a valid US driver’s license
- You are willing to sometimes work early morning hours and weekends (to manage quality control process)
